I retired this past year after 37 years with the public school system in
Tallahasse. Education was a great career for me. I really enjoyed
working with kids everyday. I had the opportunity to be a Principal at all
the grade levels from Prek through 12th and for all segments of society
in our community. I came to Tallahassee for graduate school at Florida
State Universiy in 1967, married a local girl and, except for a tour of
duty in the Army, never left. I lost my first wife, Lyndi Meginniss
to cancer in 1999. In 2002, I married Beth May. Two grown daughters
but no grandkids yet. Kelly (28) is married to a cop, has a Masters
in Entrepreneurship, works for the Fla. Dept. of Agriculture and runs her
own horseback riding stable. Darby (24) is in her last year of Law
School at Texas Tech. Regretfully, both girls were undergraduate Animal
Science majors at the University of Florida. Nothing like having a
couple of Gators in a Seminole family. Especially after their football
and basketball National Championships last year.
I may go back to work someday, helping wayward kids or beginning teachers.
But, right now I'm really enjoying retirement. We have a little place
at the coast and spend 3 days a week at the beach, 3 days in town and one
day doing laundry and shopping. The cat, Ronald, is our major source
of conversation. " Life is Good."
This will be my 9th reunion. I'm looking forward to seeing old friends,
especially my roomy, Holly Keller, whom we have presumed was dead for the
past 38 years and I'd love to discuss the literary merits of The River Is
Wide with Pat Conroy. It's time for him to come back to the fold.
See ya'll in November.
